Results of the Qualifying Round of ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2024

The Qualifying round was held on the morning of October 5, 2024 in the form of an online competition for 8 consecutive hours, with the participation of 248 teams (nearly 1,000 candidates) from 63 universities and colleges of 10 ASEAN member countries.

2024 is the 17th year the competition has been held and the 6th time it has been expanded to students from other ASEAN countries. Notably, this is the second year that all 10 ASEAN countries have teams participating in ‘ASEAN Student contest on Information Security’. This is also the year with the largest number of teams and contestants in recent years. Of which, Vietnam has 187 teams from 37 universities, some of which are participating in the competition for the first time such as Phenika University, Van Lang University, etc.; 09 other ASEAN countries with 61 teams from 26 universities participate, including teams from leading universities in countries such as National University of Singapore, Universiti Sains Malaysia, ITS Institute of Technology Indonesia, etc.

Online teams

At the end of the round, 235 teams scored. The Hanni Fanclub team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – VNU-HCM was the team with the highest score. Most of the teams that did not score were teams from schools participating in the competition for the first time.

The list of 20 teams that qualified to compete in Group A of the final round includes 19 Vietnamese student teams and 1 team from the National University of Singapore.

The Hanni Fanclub team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – Vietnam National University is the team with the highest score in the preliminary round. In the list of 20 leading teams in this round, there is only 1 foreign student team, ‘meowcats’ from the National University of Singapore, while the remaining 19 teams are from leading schools in IT and information security training in Vietnam.

With the results of the preliminary round, the Organizing Committee has now determined 83 teams that have qualified to compete in the final round, according to 2 groups A and B with different competition content held at the same time.

The Final round of the competition will take place on October 19, with 56 Vietnamese teams competing in Hanoi (Military Technical Academy) and Ho Chi Minh City (University of Information Technology – VNU-HCM City), 27 student teams from 9 other ASEAN countries competing online under the supervision of the Organizing Committee and the Jury.

The main sponsor of the competition is still the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel). In addition, this year there are also co-sponsors such as NAPAS Joint Stock Company, Mimi Informatics Joint Stock Company, VNPT-IT Information Security Center (VNPT Cyber ​​Immunity) and CMC Telecommunication Infrastructure Joint Stock Company.
