Results of the Starting Round of ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2023

The Starting round was held on the morning of October 7th, 2023 in the form of an online competition, with the participation of 233 teams (nearly 1,000 contestants) from 63 university and high school training institutions. of the 10 ASEAN member countries.

Speaking at the Starting of the competition, Mr. Vu Quoc Khanh, Vice President of VNISA, emphasized that this year is the first time all ASEAN countries (10 countries) have student teams participating in the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security at the same time. This was also the year with the largest number of teams and contestants. There are a total of 233 competing teams (nearly 1,000 contestants). Of which, Vietnam has 157 competing teams from 33 higher education institutions, with some schools participating in the competition for the first time (such as Vin University, Van Lang University, Swinburne University…), 09 other ASEAN countries with 66 of 30 participating universities, among them are teams from leading universities of countries such as the National University of Singapore, Sains University Malaysia, ITS Institute of Technology Indonesia and for the first time, Philippine students participated in the competition.

Online teams

At the end of the round, 162/233 teams scored points, including 01 foreign team and 05 Vietnamese teams that solved all the challenges. The Heroes Cyber Security team from ITS Indonesia Institute of Technology is the team that completed the exam the earliest. Most of the 61 teams that have not yet scored points are teams from schools participating in the competition for the first time.

The new point of this year’s competition is that after the Starting round, all qualified teams participate in the Final round (not going through the Qualifying round like previous years).

The Final Round will be held on October 28th, 2023 with the participation of 80 Vietnamese teams and 35 teams from 9 other ASEAN countries (online competition). Contestants from ASEAN countries compete entirely online under the supervision of the organizers and judges. Vietnamese Teams will compete onsite (do online tests) at 02 locations: Hanoi (including schools from Thua Thien Hue to the North) and City. Ho Chi Minh (including schools from Da Nang to the South). The Final Round will not divide tables, calculate points and rank based on the total number of competing teams.

Accompanying this year’s contest is still the main sponsor – Military Telecommunications Industry Group (Viettel), and co-sponsors are NAPAS Joint Stock Company and Netnam Joint Stock Company.

The ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security will certainly continue to be a useful and healthy playground and expand international exchange for students majoring in IT and information security, promoting human resource training in information security with highly qualified, actively contributing to the resources of the National Digital Transformation Program.
